Top 10 Sales Page Mistakes and How To Fix Them

A sales page can make or break your launch.

It’s not just about having a pretty design or clever copy — it’s about creating a harmonious blend of compelling messaging, persuasive psychology, and intentional visual design.

As a Kajabi web designer who’s reviewed countless sales pages from coaches, consultants, and online educators, I often notice the same mistakes over and over again — mistakes that quietly sabotage conversions.

Whether you’re building your first sales page yourself or refining one that’s already live, this guide will help you identify and fix the most common issues — so your page can finally convert visitors into paying clients.

✨ Before We Dive In…

If you’d like a step-by-step roadmap to craft a high-converting sales page, download my Free Sales Page Starter Kit below. It includes a strategic page outline, copy prompts, and Kajabi-friendly design tips to help you avoid these mistakes from the start.

1. Weak or Generic Headlines

Your headline is the first thing your visitor sees — and you only have about 7 seconds to convince them they’re in the right place.

If your headline is vague (e.g. “Transform Your Life Today”) or overly wordy, your readers will lose interest before they even start scrolling.

How to Fix It:

  •  Use proven headline formulas. Examples:
    •  “Finally, a Proven Framework to [Desired Result] — Without [Common Frustration].”
    •  “Ready to [Achieve Goal]? Here’s How I Help You Get There.”
  •  Write multiple variations. Even pros rarely nail it on the first try. Draft 3–5 headlines and choose the one that feels most natural and emotionally resonant.
  •  Test and iterate. Pay attention to metrics if your page is live — clicks, scroll depth, or opt-ins can tell you what’s working.

2. Disorganized or Overwhelming Messaging

If your sales page feels confusing or jumps around, people won’t stay long enough to understand what you’re selling.

I see this often — long blocks of copy, repetitive claims, or a layout that mixes features and benefits with no clear order.

How to Fix It:

  •  Start with clarity. Know exactly who you’re speaking to and what problem you solve.
  •  Map your messaging to a clear flow:
    1.  The problem
    2.  Your solution
    3.  Why it works
    4.  What’s included
    5.  Proof
    6.  Call to action
  •  Be concise. Eliminate fluff and repetition.
  •  Make it conversational. Imagine you’re explaining your offer to a friend or client over coffee — you understand their struggles, you’ve been there, and you can help them get results.

3. Lack of Objection Handling

Even when someone wants what you’re selling, they’ll often hesitate before clicking “buy.”

Why? Because change requires investment — of money, time, or effort — and that naturally triggers resistance.

How to Fix It:

  •  Anticipate their objections. Common ones include:
    •  “What if this doesn’t work for me?”
    •  “I’m too busy.”
    •  “I can’t afford it right now.”
  •  Address them directly. Create a “Questions or Concerns?” section that reassures your reader and removes every possible doubt.
  •  Invite conversation. Encourage visitors to email or DM you if they’re unsure. The act of engaging with you builds trust.

4. Having Navigation or External Links on the Page

One of the easiest mistakes to fix — and one of the most costly.

Your sales page should have one single goal: to encourage your reader to take action. Adding navigation menus, social links, or other clickable distractions can quickly lead them away before they purchase.

How to Fix It:

  •  Turn off the top navigation. Kajabi makes this easy — you can disable it for specific pages.
  •  Keep the footer minimal. Just Terms, Privacy Policy, and copyright info.
  •  Direct every CTA button to your checkout page. Never mix a sales CTA with a freebie opt-in or unrelated offer on the same page.

5. Long Walls of Text (Especially on White Backgrounds)

If your sales page feels like a dense essay, readers will skim and bounce.

Large chunks of text make it hard for the eye to focus — and when combined with a flat white background, it looks visually lifeless.

How to Fix It:

  •  Edit ruthlessly. Cut anything that doesn’t directly support your offer.
  •  Use bullet points. Great for benefits, features, or highlights.
  •  Break up your sections. Add imagery, icons, or subtle color backgrounds.
  •  Use one-point-per-section. Each new idea deserves its own breathing space.

(Pro tip: check out stock photos and videos on Unsplash or Pexels — they’re great for filling in visual gaps.)

6. No Product Mockup

People like to see what they’re buying — even if it’s digital.

A lack of visuals makes your offer feel abstract. When visitors can’t picture the end product, they subconsciously feel less confident about purchasing.

How to Fix It:

  •  Create a professional-looking mockup. Canva has excellent free templates for eBooks, courses, and digital kits.
  •  Add branding. Include your logo, signature colors, or a catchy product name.
  •  Or invest in a pre-made template. Creative Market and Etsy have ready-to-customize mockups that save time while keeping your brand cohesive.

7. Weak or Inconsistent Call-to-Action (CTA) Buttons

Your CTAs are the bridge between interest and action. If they blend into the background, use weak language (“Learn More”), or appear too few times, you’ll lose conversions.

How to Fix It:

  •  Use strong action verbs. Examples:
    •  “Enroll Now”
    •  “Start Your Transformation”
    • <
    •  “Grab the Starter Kit”
  •  Place CTAs strategically. Add them at key points — after your offer description, after testimonials, and near the end.
  •  Use color contrast. Make your buttons pop. For example, on The Brand Glow homepage, I use a neon purple CTA button against a neutral background — the eye goes straight there.
  •  Stay consistent. Use the same CTA color and style across your page to train your visitor’s eye.

8. No or Weak Satisfaction Guarantee

A strong guarantee communicates confidence in your product and reassures your audience that there’s no risk in trying it.

How to Fix It:

  •  Design a “You’re Protected” section. Add a badge or visual element — Canva templates work perfectly for this.
  •  Keep it clear and honest. For instance:
“Try the course for 14 days. If you’ve completed the lessons and feel it’s not right for you, email us for a full refund.”
  •  Show empathy. A guarantee isn’t just about refunds — it’s about showing that you stand behind your promise.

9. Not Enough Social Proof

Social proof is your trust builder. Without it, your page relies solely on your own claims — and that’s not enough to persuade most buyers.

How to Fix It:

  •  Collect testimonials. Even a short quote with a name and photo adds credibility.
  •  Add screenshots and case studies. Real results speak volumes.
  •  Show variety. Mix written testimonials with logos, before/after stats, or short video clips.
  •  Don’t have testimonials yet? Offer a pre-launch beta or limited free access in exchange for honest feedback.

When people see others succeeding through your offer, they imagine themselves achieving the same.

10. Ignoring Scarcity and Urgency

Even if someone loves your offer, they might still procrastinate. Urgency creates momentum and helps them act now rather than “someday.”

How to Fix It:

  •  Add real scarcity. Limit spots or bonuses — e.g. “Only 3 coaching spots left for November.”
  •  Highlight deadlines. Use countdown timers or simply write, “Enrollment closes Friday at midnight.”
  •  Include time-based incentives. Example:
“Enroll today and get a free 1:1 coaching session worth $150.”
  •  Be authentic. Never fake scarcity — it erodes trust long term.

πŸ’‘ Key Takeaway

A high-converting sales page isn’t about doing everything — it’s about doing the right things well.

Focus on:

  •  Clear, confident messaging
  •  Clean, intentional design
  •  Strategic persuasion built on trust

When these three elements work together, your page will not only look beautiful but sell beautifully too.
